AI can generate code.
Sometimes very good code.
But clients do not only pay developers to type code.
They pay them to handle ambiguity, responsibility, tradeoffs, maintenance, and production reality. ⚙️
So here is the question:
What is the most relevant reason clients won’t fully replace programmers with AI?
🔸 POLL OPTIONS
▪️ Maintain it all 🧰
▪️ Wake up at 3AM 🚨
▪️ Pick tradeoffs ⚖️
▪️ Clarify the need 🎯
🔸 WHAT I MEAN
▪️ Maintain it all 🧰
Code is not finished when it compiles. Someone must understand it, evolve it, debug it, explain it, and keep it alive for years.
▪️ Wake up at 3AM 🚨
In production, someone must take responsibility when things break. Accountability is still very human.
▪️ Pick tradeoffs ⚖️
Performance, cost, security, maintainability, delivery speed… software is full of compromises. The hard part is choosing the right one.
▪️ Clarify the need 🎯
Many projects fail before the code starts because the real need is unclear, incomplete, or changing.
As Fred Brooks reminded us:
“There is no silver bullet.”
AI is powerful.
But software is still about people, context, and responsibility.
