I’m curious to see what the community actually uses day-to-day.
Here are the options 👇
- VS Code 💻 – Lightweight, tons of extensions, great if you hop between many languages and tech stacks.
- IntelliJ IDEA ✨ – The “power user” choice for many Java devs: deep refactorings, inspections, and smart navigation.
- Eclipse IDE 🌓 – A long-time classic of the Java ecosystem, still very present in many companies and legacy projects.
- It depends 🤷 – Switching IDEs based on project, team standards, or constraints (licensing, hardware, plugins, etc.).
As Joshua Bloch (author of Effective Java) reminds us, tools matter because they shape how we design and evolve our code. I’d love to see how the Java community is tooling up in 2025.
