☕➿ JAVA LOOP certification challenge: solve it in 25 SECONDS
☕➿ JAVA LOOP certification challenge: solve it in 25 SECONDS
One continue changes more than you think. 👀

🔸 TLDR
You have 25 seconds. ⏱️
Without an IDE, what does this Java code print?
int i = -1, sum = 0; loop: do { if (i++ == 1) continue; sum += ++i; if (sum > 6) break loop; } while (i < 5); System.out.println(i + ":" + sum);
What is the output? ☕
▪️ A — 5:11
▪️ B — 6:11
▪️ C — 6:12
▪️ D — Infinite loop ♾️
Think about it before reading further. 😈
✅ Answer: B — 6:11
The trap is the combination of:
▪️ i++ → compare first, increment afterward
▪️ ++i → increment first, then use the value
▪️ continue inside a do-while → jumps to the condition check
▪️ break loop → immediately exits the labeled loop
The important moment happens when i == 1.
i++ == 1 is true, but i becomes 2 before continue.
The sum += ++i statement is therefore skipped for that iteration.
🔸 TAKEAWAYS
Java certification questions rarely require huge algorithms.
The difficulty often comes from evaluation order and control flow.
When you see:
▪️ prefix vs postfix operators
▪️ continue in a do-while
▪️ labels and break
…trace the variables statement by statement rather than trying to read the loop intuitively.
How many seconds did you need? ⏱️
